We had a wonderful time celebrating Christmas in Strasbourg, France. The day started off with Santa Claus's traditional scavenger hunt for gifts and then we exchanged amongst each other and with my sister. This year the boys all really delighted in buying gifts for each other with their allowances, though it was notably harder to hide presents from each other while traveling and constantly going through all our bags!
The morning was spent with my sister as we prepared food to share with my dad's cousin and her children and their families who live in Strasbourg. We got to see family members in the weekends leading up to Christmas and then joined them on Christmas in a little village called Muhlbach-sur-Munster for Christmas night. Some were second cousins I hadn't seen for ten years since I last visited France, or even longer. We were touched by the warm reception we received (Père Noël even visited our children at their house!). The boys were a little shy at first, but eventually were playing around with cousins their ages and had a delightful time. They started asking how to say things in French to help with their playtime. Dave got an immersive experience in French and we all learned about foods and traditions local to the area (Munster cheese, ham with a bread crust around it, smoked salmon appetizers and a typical Christmas dessert - bûche de Noël). It was lovely to be with family as we celebrated our Savior's birth!
