First day in Edinburgh...or is that San Diego?

Don't be fooled by the beach scene, we are indeed in Edinburgh, Scotland!

We happened to get a glorious Saturday with sun and warmth; the best day of weather all summer according to one local. And since Dave looked up the local ultimate community and saw they were having a beach ultimate scrimmage, how could we resist? Amazingly, the three younger boys happily self-entertained on the beach with only a frisbee as a toy while Mom and Dad both got to play (sometimes even at the same time on the same team!!). Sam was enticed to play by the end and we all enjoyed at least splashing around in the Firth of Forth. Firth is a synonym for estuary and one of the contributing rivers is the River Forth. It's also just fun to say.

Couldn't this be any day in San Diego?

Videos of the glorious day.  Sunshine did not want to bring his swim clothes because "I don't want to get wet!" and then proceeded to dive into the waves fully clothed.

Afterwards the Ultimate group invited us to their BBQ at a teammates house in the suburbs and even offered to drive us there as it wasn't easily reached by bus. We had a wonderful time chatting with everyone, hearing about recommended sights to see and getting to know new people. About 90% of the group was not Scottish, but they did have a few locals! Wonderfully, we were able to walk about 10 minutes at the end of the evening to catch a quick 8 minute train ride back to the city centre (those British spellings are infiltrating!) and then a 15 minute walk home. Imagine trying to get home from a suburb in San Diego! We can't complain about the public transportation here...it's been so convenient!

On the way home - by the castle of course - we saw/heard this concert and light show on the castle mound.

So 24 hours in Edinburgh and we've met about two dozen people, enjoyed a warm day at the beach and played beach Ultimate. It was a great day!
